Save OUR Holman Post Office

I have several concerns about the way the meeting (April 19th - editor) was held.
  1. The person (Alberta Ellis) that the Postal Service sent to conduct the meeting was totally unprepared for the number of people who showed up to voice their concerns.
  2. Since she was unprepared the meeting was moved outdoors where many people could not hear or be heard.
  3. Because the meeting was moved outdoors I saw many people come for a short time and then leave, therefore they had no way of knowing what was being discussed, nor were their concerns answered.
  4. Alberta Ellis discouraged those attending to write their Congressmen and Senators, advice that is the exact opposite of what Pamela C. Garcia (Constituent Liaison Manager for Congressman Ben Ray Lujan) and Anna Rael-DeLay (Field Representative for Senator Tom Udall) recommended.

What a tragedy. Once upon a time family, small towns and small businesses were what made this country great.
  1. We began to close small businesses as corporations and foreign made products began to dominate our country.
  2. We began to send our children off to big cities to have a better opportunity
  3. We began to close small schools? For better resources?
  4. Now we begin to close off our small PO's?

In essence this country has been pushing for to destroy family, family owned business, small community and what are we left with? Corporate America! Corporate America has worked to destroy individualism.

When will it stop?

I am past 70 and have lived in several states and a number of foreign countries. The Holman Post Office is the best I have ever dealt with. The Swiss were equally efficient, but NO post office matched Holman at being friendly and helpful. Why destroy the best?

One point we should be sure to make is that many of the packages that arrive at the PO are prescription drugs. Our medical plan only permits us to get our prescriptions filled thru a mail order pharmacy that only ships via US mail. Several of our prescriptions require special handling, i.e., they are shipped in a Styrofoam cooler to prevent overheating. Sitting in the sun by the side of the road in hot weather would be a problem. I'm sure we're not the only ones with this problem.

Before we physically moved here, I realized that we would need wood, as we would be arriving in winter. I called the Postmaster, Dolly Gallegos, and asked her if she knew who could put us a cord of dry wood. She arranged it for us, and we paid as soon as we got here. THAT is service. It seems that every asset and amenity is being peeled away from American communities, as the treasury is plundered by the amoral and unscupulous rich. Somewhere, somewhen, someone needs to take a stand. That is where the community of Holman, and the wider communities in the Mora Valley, stand now. This is our time to act, or fold in misery and anger and shame.
